The Chicago Humanities Festival will kick-off its 30th anniversary Fall Festival with MSNBC anchor and investigative reporter Rachel Maddow on Saturday, October 12. Maddow announced her CHF appearance moments ago during The Rachel Maddow Show.
Maddow comes to CHF to discuss her forthcoming book, Blowout: Corrupted Democracy, Rogue State Russia, and the Richest, Most Destructive Industry on Earth.
Blowout explores "the unimaginably lucrative and equally corrupting" influence of the oil and gas industry on countries around the world, from increasing environmental degradation and enriching petro-authoritarian leaders, to most alarmingly, weakening democratic systems, including, Maddow argues, the hacking of the 2016 American election by Russians.
"Rachel Maddow is one of America's best-known news anchors, unparalleled in her ability to speak truth to power," said Marilynn Thoma Artistic Director Alison Cuddy. "Her unflinching look at the corrosive powers of fossil fuel, is the perfect launch to our fall exploration of Power," said Cuddy.
CHF Members will enjoy an exclusive week-long ticket buying period starting Tuesday, August 20 at 10 a.m. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, August 27 at 10 a.m.
"Rachel Maddow is just one of the Chicago Humanities Festival's can't-miss events during our 30th anniversary fall season. We'll be rolling out a number of others over the coming month, as well as the Festival's entire lineup," said CHF Executive Director Phillip Bahar. "Our members always have early access to tickets, which is vital for an event like Rachel Maddow, which is sure to sell out."
