Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center to Present FRENCH VIRTUOSITY, 5/22

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will conclude the inaugural season of its critically-acclaimed three-year concert series and residency at the Harris Theater with French Virtuosity on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 7:30 pm.  Pianists Inon Barnatan & Juho Pohjonen; violinists Jessica Lee, Kristin Lee, & Elmar Oliveira; violist Beth Guterman; and cellist Andreas Brantelid will perform this exceptional all-French program that features the best known and most virtuosic works of France's most famous composers.  Saint-Saëns' timeless First Piano Trio and virtuosic First Violin Sonata, as well as Chausson's intensely passionate Concerto for Piano, Violin, and String Quartet, Op. 21 will be featured.

This fall, the Grammy Award-winning ensemble Sweet Honey In The Rock will join forces with the critically-acclaimed Sphinx Virtuosi and the internationally-renowned Chicago Children's Choir for an inspiring and uplifting performance featuring the newly-commissioned work Affirmations for a New World, a collaborative piece composed by Bill Banfield with lyrics by Ysaye M. Barnwell, Nitanju Bolade Casel, Aisha Kahlil, Carol Maillard, Louise Robinson, the members of Sweet Honey In The Rock.  

Co-commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra and John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC; the Minnesota Orchestra; and the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, Affirmations for a New World will be premiered at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, April 13-14, 2012 by the National Symphony Orchestra.  The Minnesota Orchestra will next perform the work on April 21, 2012.

Composer Bill Banfield has rescored this newly-commissioned work specifically for the award-winning musicians of Sphinx Virtuosi and will conduct the work's premiere performance at the Harris Theater on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 7:30 pm.  Further performance details, including ticket prices will be announced at a later date.
