A Steady Rain, Chicago Dramatists' hit production now playing at the Royal George Theatre, 1641 N. Halsted, will celebrate National Police Week by offering all police officers special buy one get one free tickets to performances on Thursdays, May 8 and 15 and Sundays, May 11 and 18. Police officers should bring proper identification to the Royal George Theatre box office to receive the discount. Recently extended through June 8, no other production in recent Chicago history has garnered the kind of rave reviews as A Steady Rain. The critics have called Keith Huff's new play "a gritty, rich, thick poetic and entirely gripping noir tale" (Chris Jones, The Chicago Tribune); "some of the most dazzling acting you will ever see anywhere" (Hedy Weiss, The Chicago Sun-Times); and "excellent, evocative" (Variety Magazine).
A Steady Rain explores love and rage on the streets of Chicago, as a routine domestic disturbance call sends two Chicago cops, Denny (Randy Steinmeyer) and Joey (Peter DeFaria), on a harrowing journey that will test their loyalties and change their lives forever.
A Steady Rain has received workshop productions at New York Stage & Film's Powerhouse (July, 2006) and the Barrow Group Theater of New York (February, 2007). These workshops, in addition to staged readings and other developmental programs at Chicago Dramatists, have led to a final product of intimacy, grace and power.
Beginning the week of April 28, the performance schedule for A Steady Rain is Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Ticket price is $50. All tickets for police officers, firefighters and other uniformed personnel are $25 and available with the appropriate ID. Student and senior discounts are also available.
