City Winery Chicago, 1200 W. Randolph Street, announces an intimate acoustic duo performance by '90s Seattle rock & roll band Candlebox, comedian, musician and Tony Award-nominated actor Stephen Lynch, contemporary folk artist Josh Ritter andmore. An American singer/songwriter with a strong voice, a keen wit, and an evocative way with words, Josh Ritter has built a loyal following as one of the leading lights on the contemporary folk scene. Born in Idaho, Ritter bought his first guitar after hearing the Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash classic "The Girl from the North Country." While attending college in Oberlin, Ohio, Ritter got his first taste of the music of Leonard Cohen and Gillian Welch; he instantly fell in love with their songs and dropped his neuroscience major in favor of the pursuit of music. He recorded and released his self-titled debut in 1999, but it was 2002's The Golden Age of Radio that got him noticed by both critics and folk fans. His most recent work was with producer and engineer Trina Shoemaker for his 2015 release Sermon on the Rocks.

Ritter's City Winery Chicago show is part of his Works in Progress tour where he will try out some brand-new material. Ritter says, "I've been writing a lot of songs lately -- they come in waves, and I seem to be riding one right now. I'm playing some special solo shows in January and February to try them out. These shows will be mostly new songs, and a lot of me figuring stuff out along the way. It'll be fun and weird and cool. So, if you wanna see some works in progress, come on down. Help me figure out just how sturdy these songs are."

Singer/songwriter and comedian Stephen Lynch has an uncanny wit and a mysterious comical side to him. His performance résumé includes shared gigs with Jeff Foxworthy, Bobcat Goldthwait, Anthony Clark, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. In 2000, he appeared in his own debut television special on Comedy Central. That year, the guitarist also released his debut album A Little Bit Special, a 22-track look at Lynch's silly and ironic sense of humor. Two years later, Lynch issued a collection of five different shows in and around New York City titled Superhero. Tours at countless colleges and universities across the United States followed into 2004, the same year Lynch released his first DVD, Live at the El Rey. The single "Vanilla Ice Cream" announced the arrival of his 2005 album The Craig Machine. Lynch played the title role in the 2006 Broadway production of The Wedding Singer, for which he received a Tony Nomination, a Drama League nomination and a Drama Desk nomination.

Kruger Brothers

Born and raised in Europe, brothers Jens and Uwe Kruger started singing and playing instruments at a very young age. Growing up in a family where music was an important part of life, they were exposed to a wide diversity of abiding musical influences. The brothers were performing regularly by the time they were 11 and 12 years old and they began their professional career in 1979. Joel Landsberg, a native of New York City who also had a very extensive musical upbringing, joined the brothers in the early 90s. Together, they established the incomparable sound that the trio is known for today.

Paris Combo

Internationally renowned World music quintet Paris Combo has established itself as one of the most piquant, intriguing groups on the international music scene. Fronted by the mischievous vocals of chanteuse Belle du Berry, the Jazz-influenced acoustic ensemble has struck a positive chord with their fun-loving mix of jazz, French pop, cabaret, gypsy, Latino and Middle Eastern rhythms. The group also includes Australian David Lewis on piano and trumpet, Django-influenced guitarist Potzi and French drummer François Jeannin.

Candlebox

Formed in Seattle in 1991, Candlebox went quadruple platinum with their 1993 self-titled debut and released two more acclaimed and top-selling albums (1995's Lucy and 1998's Happy Pills) before going on a hiatus in 2000. Candlebox regrouped with a 2006 tour, then put out Into the Sun in 2008, followed by 2012's Love Stories & Other Musings. The band's most recent release, For Disappearing in Airports, which, at this record's core, is a recommitment to creating music that is "pissed and urgent" as well as bringing a new energy to the live show. Candlebox remains one of the most highly requested and played groups on radio, including the band's mega hits "Far Behind" and "You." Their City Winery Chicago set features intimate acoustic duo performances.

City Winery also announces Al Scorch opens for Rhett Miller on Dec. 1 and Pearls Mahone opens for Davina & the Vagabonds on Dec. 7.

All City Winery events are open to all ages and start at 8 p.m., unless noted.

Opened in 2012, City Winery Chicago is a fully operational winery, restaurant with outdoor patio, concert hall and private event space located in the heart of the West Loop at 1200 W.
