CakeWalk Comedy Hosts CAKEWALK MIDNIGHT EXTRAVAGANZA! Friday's at Midnight

The CakeWalk Midnight Extravaganza! is a variety show featuring a live band every week with a rotating cast of some of Chicago's best sketch, improv and stand-up comedians, as well as tap and burlesque dancers, magicians, jugglers, fire breathers, and other novelty acts. It's a different show every week.

The CakeWalk Midnight Extravaganza! is produced by CakeWalk, an improv troupe featuring Eric Rutherford, Sherman Edwards, Matt Owens and Aaron Caponigro. The group began performing in May 2009 and has been producing the CakeWalk Midnight Extravaganza! since November 2009.

Aaron Caponigro (Producer/Performer) is a native Chicagoan who has performed with Navy Pier Entertainment, The Second City Outreach, Improv Acadia, The Comedy Shrine, Emerald City, Chicago Kids Co., pH Prods., and Beverly Arts Center, among others. Aaron performs regularly with Storytown at iO Theater, at Thursday Happy Hour, a solo sketch showcase at The Playground Theater, with the improvised tall tale Hogwash, and with his tween-age son Jacob as the comedy duo UnRelated, which recently performed at the Chicago Sketchfest.

Eric Rutherford (Producer/Performer) has performed internationally with The Second City, and around town with The Annoyance and iO Theaters. Eric wrote "Mom Grows Peaches Big with Her Mind. Dad is a Time Assassin." for the Annoyance Theater and has recently turned his attention to directing, guiding the groups Gander Goose and Germans at Chicago Sketchfest.

Sherman Edwards (Producer/Performer) can be seen, when not performing with CakeWalk, performing his 2-man show Tomato/Tomatoe (tomatotomatoe.com) at The Annoyance Theater or onstage at iO Theater with his other improv group, BLACKOUT (BLACKOUTcomedy.com) with whom he can found on the radio on 89.5FM :Vocalo.org.

Matt Owens (Producer/Performer) is the co-host and co-creator of the Chicago podcast staple, The Poor Choices Show, which can be heard on iTunes. Matt is also the head of Bottled Anarchy Productions, has performed internationally, and has taught improv workshops all over the United States. Matt can be seen improvising around Chicago at the Playground and Annoyance Theaters.

The performances take place at The Playground Theater, 3209 N. Halsted Chicago, IL 60657, close to Belmont CTA Red/Brown Line Station and #77 Belmont bus. Performances take place weekly on Fridays at 11:59PM.
