Buffalo Theatre Ensemble (BTE) presents the hilarious play of cinematic history, Moonlight and Magnolias, by Ron Hutchinson, running Sep. 18 - Oct. 11, 2009, at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, located at 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn, Ill. Press night is Friday, Sep. 18 at 8 p.m.

It is 1939. Legendary Hollywood producer David O. Selznick has halted production on the complicated set of his film Gone with the Wind. He desperately needs to hire a new director and writer and locks himself in his office with Hollywood's most celebrated and prolific screenwriter/script doctor of the time, Ben Hecht, and pulls in director Victor Fleming, fresh off the set of The Wizard of Oz. Though Hecht has never read the novel, the frantic Selznick offers him a brief synopsis and $15,000 to write a revised screenplay by the end of the week.

Directed by Buffalo Theatre Ensemble member Kurt Naebig, the story comes to life as the three high-powered individuals quarrel and compromise their way through a five-day work session trapped together in Selznick's office. Acting out memorable scenes and creating soon-to-be famous dialogue, they exist solely on peanuts and bananas (Selznick's idea of "brain food"). Ever-mindful of the ticking clock, the three creative forces reveal some of Hollywood's darkest secrets as the pressure mounts inside Selznick's office.
