Brown Paper Box Co. continues its 2016/2017 season with The Broad-Way: A Ladies Cabaret, a night of songs written by women, celebrating women. This joyful evening of music from all genres highlights the work of artists like Tori Amos, Carol King, and Joni Mitchell, plus selections from musicals like Fun Home and The Secret Garden.

"There are so many wonderful songs written by women in all genres of music that aren't always given the recognition they deserve, so we wanted to shine a light on the women behind the music we all love," says Managing Director Anna Schutz. "Selfishly, this was also an excuse to get a bunch of talented Chicago ladies together to sing and play music."

Current performers in The Broad-Way include Margaret Baughman (Artistic Associate with BPBCo.), Alexis Bevels (Dixie Wins a Talent Show While Alexis Bevels Stage Manages, Berlin Nightclub; Co-host of Night of 100 Drag Queens 2015, Sidetrack the Video Bar), Dixie Lynn Cartwright, (host of Dixie Wins a Talent Show While Alexis Bevels Stage Manages, Berlin Nightclub), Lindsey Charles (lead singer of The Cell Phones; various projects for Knife and Fork), Rachel Fridkin (local singer-songwriter, member of The Good Ships), Stephanie Rohr* (High Fidelity, Refuge Theatre Project, Godspell, BPBCo.), Sarah Sapperstein* (Reefer Madness, BPBCo., Cabaret, Devonshire Playhouse), Anna Schutz* ([title of show] and Now. Here. This., BPBCo.), Kristi Szczepanek (Now. Here. This., BPCo., Return Of Neverland, Quest Theatre Ensemble). Special guests include Elizabeth Morgan, Alex Newkirk, and Khaki Pixley of local folk-bluegrass group She's Folks! The Broad-Way is coordinated by Allison Hendrix (Co-Artistic Director, Kokandy Productions; Company, Writers Theatre), and Anna Schutz*, with an original poster design by Charlie Sheets*. *Denotes Brown Paper Box Co. company member
