BrightSide Theatre's THE SOUND OF MUSIC Begins Tonight

BrightSide Theatre, Naperville's only professional theatre performing in the historic downtown district, wraps up its 4th season with Rodgers's and Hammerstein's beloved musical The Sound of Music. Directed by BrightSide Theatre's Artistic Director Jeffrey Cass and playing tonight, June 12-June 28, 2015 at the Theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall at North Central College, 31 S. What better musical to close our 4th season of Celebrating Friends and Family than with one of the world's most beloved family classic musical - The Sound of Music. BrightSide Theatre's Artistic Director Jeffrey Cass stages the multi Tony award winning musical that celebrates how families are formed in many different ways. Director Jeffrey Cass explains "The story and the music is one that is so well known throughout our society and the world with songs that we have heard since most of us were children. It's thrilling to look at this jewel in the crown of the Rodgers and Hammerstein crown and rediscover it for the first time. We hope that families who come will see and hear the show, whether for the first time or once again, will rediscover the love of the story of how a misguided nun became the mother to seven children and the wife of a naval captain all set against the backdrop of Nazi occupied Austria."

Not only does 2015 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Motion Picture adaptation of this classic musical, but The Sound of Music also marks Rodgers and Hammerstein's last musical collaboration together. This collaboration provided us with some of the most famous songs ever written for the musical stage, including The Sound of Music, My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, Climb Ev'ry Mountain and Edelweiss.
