BrightSide Theatre today announced its production of My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra, conceived by David Grapes and Todd Olson with book by Todd Olson. Through the melodies of 56 of his songs and factoids about his life, four musical actors regale the life and career of Ol’ Blue Eyes.
Frank Sinatra - who better to feature in a musical revue? Frank was the only child of Italian immigrants living in Hoboken, NJ- his father a firefighter and his mom a neighborhood political leader. As a boy, he delivered newspapers and was kicked out of high school after just 47 days of attending for his rowdy conduct, and yet he went on to be one of the world’s most iconic entertainers without ever learning how to read music. Instead he learned simply by ear.
Many may not know but this member of the Rat Pack got his big break at the Palmer House in Chicago where he met with Tommy Dorsey and was signed onto his band. Mr. Sinatra would then make his debut with the Dorsey Band at the Coronado Theater in Rockford, Illinois.
Michael Rivera returns to the Chicagoland area with his performance in My Way…. Mr. Rivera has had an illustrious career that has taken him around the world after being handpicked by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber to star in the first tour of Starlight Express. Since then, Mr. Rivera has been seen on many stages across the US.
