BoHo Theatre presents EURYDICE, Sarah Ruhl's lyrical reimagining of the classic Greek myth, directed by Charles Riffenburg with movement choreography by Melissa McNamara. The play reworks the tragic myth of Orpheus from the point of view of his bride, Eurydice, exploring the power of love and grief through poetry and absurdism. Ruhl is the author of such critically acclaimed works as THE CLEAN HOUSE, DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE, and IN THE NEXT ROOM (OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY).

THE PLAY
Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice is taken to the land of the dead, where she reunites with her adoring father and struggles to remember her lost life. Unwilling to exist without her, Eurydice's husband Orpheus storms the gates of the underworld to rescue her. Eurydice must then face a heart-wrenching choice: return to the world above with her husband, or stay below with her father.
Sarah Ruhl's EURYDICE is a modern tragedy that explores how clinging too tightly to what we've lost can rob us of our future.
THE PRODUCTION
Just as
Sarah Ruhl reimagined the Orpheus myth to create EURYDICE, BoHo Theatre will boldly reconfigure its home space at the Heartland Studio in Rogers Park to order to bring the audience deeper into the play. "BoHo is constantly aiming to give our audiences the most intimate experience we can with our productions," director Charles Riffenburg says. "We want to realize the fantastical elements of this play- such as onstage water and a raining elevator, the poetic language, stylized movement, and original music-without losing the audience's connection to the characters and their emotional relationships." Melissa McNamara, a regular collaborator with the media-blending Mozawa company, will provide choreography, with original music and sound design by multi-instrumentalist composer Joshua Wentz.

Amanda Jane Long as Eurydice; Chloe Dzielak as Orpheus; Peter Robel as Father; Adam Kander as A Nasty Interesting Man/The Lord of the Underworld; and Eleanor Katz, Adam Thatcher, and
