Two adult sisters, Lizzie and Laura, return to their childhood home and relive the dark fantasies of their adolescence, in which goblin men capered and tempted them to sample forbidden fruits. When Laura succumbs to goblin blandishments, it is up to Lizzie to take a stand and save her sister's life. Blending haunting songs and story theater, this musical adaptation of the poem by Christina Rossetti spins a captivating spell.
"After the success of Coraline, I wanted to continue exploring unusual musical works that have an element of dark fantasy to them," Director Ed Rutherford said. "Goblin Market fits the bill perfectly. The piece also employs the story theater aesthetic that is a Black Button Eyes hallmark. Goblin Market uses fantastical events to delve into the bonds of sisterhood and the struggles of sexual awakening."
The cast of Goblin Market includes Stephanie Stockstill (Laura) and Jennifer T. Grubb (Lizzie).
The creative team includes Ed Rutherford (Director), Jeffrey Bouthiette (Music Director), Beth Laske-Miller (Costume Designer), Rocky Kolecke (Props Designer), Chazz Malott (Lighting Designer, winner of 2014 BroadwayWorld award for his lighting design for Black Button Eyes Productions' Coraline), and Derek Van Barham (Movement Director).
