Big Noise Theatre Company Announces Auditions for Butterflies are Free 11/1

Big Noise Theatre Company is seeking actors for its second production of their 10th anniversary season, Butterflies are Free, written by Leonard Gershe. The show is being directed by Catherine Davis and produced by Peter Rasey. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, November 1 from 7pm to 9pm at Winnetka Community House, 680 Lincoln Ave, Winnetka, IL. Butterflies are Free is a romantic comedy that centers on a blind man´s attempt at self-reliance, a young woman´s fear of commitment, and a loving mother´s struggle with letting her son go. The original Broadway production opened in 1969, and won a Supporting Actress Tony award for Blythe Danner. A successful movie version starred Goldie Hawn, Edward Albert and won Eileen Heckart an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress in 1972.

The following roles are open:

Don - 20s, male: Blind, has had a conservative upbringing, has to sing and play the guitar a bit.

(NOTE: This role requires being dressed in underwear for a good portion of the play.)

Jill - Early 20s, female: Delicate and naive, free-spirited, worldly without being worldly-wise.

(NOTE: This role requires being dressed in underwear for a good portion of the play.)

Mrs. Baker - 50s, female: Don's mother, conservative, attractive, uptight, well-dressed, from Scarsdale, NY

Ralph - Mid 20s-Mid 30s, male: Artistic and arrogant

Auditions will consist of cold readings from script. Please bring headshot/resume. Performance dates are January 13 to February 5, 2011 at Prairie Lakes Theater in Des Plaines, IL.

Big Noise now offers all cast members participation in its CAST (Comp Assisted STipend) program. Each cast member will be provided with 8 ticket vouchers which may be sold at full value of $24.00 each. The proceeds from these 8 tickets may be kept by the performer, providing a potential stipend of $192. For more information, please call producer Peter Rasey at 773-463-4180.
