Bailiwick Chicago and Teatro Luna present "North America Now," a cultural event focusing on the state of North America on the tenth Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Co-produced by Bailiwick Chicago Executive Director Brian LaDuca and Teatro Luna Executive Director Alex Meda, "North America Now" will explore the subject of North American borders through performances and visual art as well as a town hall panel discussion with local politicians, cultural leaders and artists on current border issues and concerns. The event, which begins at 7 p.m. with a cocktail hour, will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at The Instituto Cervantes of Chicago, 31 W. Ohio Street. Tickets start at $30 and are available through www.bailiwickchicago.com or at www.brownpapertickets.com.

"At the center of this exciting event, we're asking the question: Ten years later, what do the 9/11 attacks mean not only to the US, but to our immediate connecting countries? It'stime to have a transnational discussion that focuses on issues affecting real people in real places, with an emphasis on acceptance and prosperity for the entire continent," says Bailiwick Chicago Executive Director Brian LaDuca.

"We believe that the personal is political, and this event is an example of "The North/South Plays" mission in action: to bring together people from a wide array of backgrounds, perspectives, and politics to both share their viewpoints and receive new ideas and fresh inspiration. It's a truly collaborative experience for all involved, and will fundamentally change the way the audience views the intersection of art and current events," says Executive Director of Teatro Luna, Alexandra Meda.

The "North America Now", town hall panel discussion will feature NBC5's 5-time Emmy® award winning journalist and Canadian Native, Marcus Riley; Associate Director of the Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame, Allert Brown-Gort; WBEZ's Alison Cuddy (Eight Forty-Eight); Latino stand-up comedian, Mikey-O, as well as other panelists yet to be announced. Third-Generation, Mexican-American Chicagoan and Chicago Urban Arts Society co-founder Lauren Pacheco will moderate the evening.

The evening will showcase Canadian and Latino art, including an exhibition of visual art from Mexican-American painter/cartoonist Eric Garcia, as well as performances of selections from the World Premiere "The North/South Plays;" music from Canadian native Adam Fallon; and Mexican American musicians Paloma Martinez-Cruz and Gary Janota.A cocktail hour and a sampling of North American cuisines and spirits will follow the presentation. There will be tastings of Tequila, Mezcal, beer and wine from some of Chicago newest distributors like Los Mezcaleros and acclaimed Chicago bartender Daniel de Oliveira(BOKA, Crimson Lounge).

This event is hosted in cooperation with the Instituto Cervantes, in partnership with the Consulado General de México en Chicago and the Consulate General of Canada in Chicago.

Tickets for the event are $30. A VIP package for $50 per person includes two free tickets to the Opening Night World Premiere of "The North/South Plays;" a spirits package and other items in the VIP gift bag.
