MCL Chicago Artistic Director Alex Garday is proud to present a world premiere comedic musical Ayn Rand in Love as part of the summer series. Ayn Rand in Love tells the story of a young Ayn Rand falling in what one would call love (she would not) with the charismatic Frank O'Connor. Taking some truth from her early days working with MGM Studios, the musical has all the glitz and glamour of an MGM classic of the late 1920s. When Ayn Rand sees something of value to her, she knows how to get it and a job at MGM, Frank O'Connor, and another lover are no exception. The production runs approximately 90 minutes with no intermission.
After a successful showing at the 2016 Premier Premiers! A Weekend of New Musical Comedies Festival, the cast and crew return for a limited six performance run on Saturdays at 7:30 p.m, Aug. 6 Sept. 10, 2016 at MCL Chicago Comedy Theater (3110 N.Sheffield Ave.). Tickets for the production are $20 general with $15 student/industry tickets available cash or credit at the door or online at MCLChicago.com. All performances are BYOB.
"A lot of people today feel the way Ayn doesthat if you want more, you should work harder and your hard work will be rewarded," said director Shanna Brown. "In today's political climate, that's not always true. This musical is full of characters who have learned to play the game to get what they want, and make compromises along the way for their own selfish gains. Although Ayn touts that selfreliance is all you need, by the end we see that a world of selfishness and selfreliance is a sad one. The cast is great, the music is memorable, and the awardwinning book is hilariously spoton. Who knew Ayn Rand could be so funny?"
