The Auditorium Theatre announces the appointment of Henry Fogel, Dean of Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts, Interim CEO of the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, effective immediately.
One of the best known and most influential performing arts administrators in the United States, Mr. Fogel joined Roosevelt in 2009 after leading the League of American Orchestras from 2003 to 2008, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association from 1985 to 2003, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington, D.C. from 1978 to 1981. As Dean of the Chicago College of Performing Arts, Mr. Fogel is responsible for the University's highly acclaimed Music and Theatre Conservatories. Under his leadership, both conservatories have hired internationally known faculty members and have graduated students who have achieved acclaim on stages in this country and abroad, including Aladdin on Broadway and the Deutsche Opera in Berlin.
"We are honored that Henry has accepted our invitation to be the Auditorium Theatre's Interim CEO," said Charlie Gardner, chairman of the Auditorium Theatre Board of Directors. "He is a thoughtful and effective administrator whose extensive knowledge managing some of the nation's most renowned performing arts organizations will ensure that our historic landmark theatre thrives while we continue the search for a permanent CEO."
The Auditorium Theatre is currently searching for a CEO to succeed Brett Batterson, who left in November to become President and CEO of the Orpheum Theatre and the Halloran Centre for Performing Arts & Education in Memphis.
"I am very pleased to accept this interim position while the search process goes forward," Mr. Fogel said. "I have a tremendous regard for the history and importance of the Auditorium Theatre, and enormous respect for its accomplishments in the Chicago area."
During this period, Associate Dean Rudy Marcozzi will serve as Interim Dean of the Chicago College of Performing Arts, a role he played before Mr. Fogel was hired. Dr. Marcozzi joined Roosevelt in 1987 and is professor of core music studies. His work with the college includes appointments as Interim Dean, Special Assistant to the Dean, and, currently, Associate Dean, Administration.
