In its second year, Artist Empowered Summer Intensive is designed for students age 14-19 who aspire to study performing arts in college. Hosted by The School of Performing Arts (est. 1990) from July 16-27, this two-week program brings together top professionals from across the country and Chicago to create individualized training opportunities for each discipline. Among program faculty announced to-date are award-winning lyric soprano Claudia Benack, associate professor of voice at Carnegie Mellon University, and Cameron Knight, head of BFA Acting program at The Theatre School at DePaul University. These renowned educators will help students with a specialized guidance in the performing arts by offering an expert eye into the world of college admissions, while focusing on the growth of each performer this summer.

Concentrations will be offered in Music Theatre, Acting, Contemporary and Classical Voice. Students will develop the artistic capabilities necessary to accomplish individual goals, including courage, strength, craft development and artistry, while embracing the tenacity required to thrive in today's artistic environment. This one-of-a-kind intensive will be held in the heart of the city, utilizing the hallowed halls and studios of Chicago's own Academy for the Arts.

This summer's program will provide an opportunity for housing at University Center, along with additional evening activities such as workshops, sight-seeing, and attending theater performances throughout the city. Artist Empowered will also be found leading workshops and exhibiting at the 2018 Illinois High School Theatre Festival January 11 - 13, 2018.
