American Theater Company's (ATC) Artistic Director Will Davis has announced Katie Klemme as ATC's new managing director, effective immediately. Klemme joins ATC in her new role after having been a resident stage manager with the company since 2008.
"American Theater Company has been my artistic home since 2008, so it only seems fitting to join the staff in this new role as ATC begins a new chapter with Artistic Director Will Davis's inaugural season," says Klemme. "We have big plans for the small, but mighty warehouse at 1909 W. Byron."
Klemme also took on the role of stage manager for ATC's regional premiere of Men on Boats by Jaclyn Backhaus, Jan. 6-Feb. 12, 2017, immediately following the production's acclaimed Off Broadway run directed by Davis at Playwrights Horizons. Men on Boats marked Davis' directorial debut at ATC since joining the company as artistic director last February.
"I could not be more thrilled to have Katie taking on this crucial role in the company as we move ATC towards a vibrant future together," says Davis. "Katie brings with her so much institutional knowledge, an incredible energy for implementing new ideas and systems, and the kind of ambitious spirit I need on this new adventure."
Katie Klemme was previously Pegasus Players' Managing Director from 2004-2007 and Organic Theater Company's Managing Director from 2000-2004. She has worked with Geva Theatre Center, Rochetster, NY; Northlight Theatre, Theater Wit, About Face Theater, Windy City Playhouse, Arts Emerson, Boston; TODD + BRYAN Present, Las Vegas, NV; among others. At ATC, she has been the Production Stage Manager for 22 productions, 10 directed by late Artistic Director PJ Paparelli. Highlights include last season's Xanadu, The Project(s) (world premiere), Columbinus (Chicago & Boston), Disgraced (world premiere) and The Original Grease. She has also been on faculty at Loyola University Chicago's Department of Fine & Performing Arts since 2007 teaching courses in Stage Management.
American Theater Company (ATC) challenges and inspires its community by exploring stories that ask the question, "What does it mean to be an American?" ATC's Ensemble includes Patrick Andrews, Kareem Bandealy, Jaime Castañeda, Kelly O'Sullivan, Tyler Ravelson, and Sadieh Rifai.
