The 30-week national tour of the acclaimed Off-Broadway hit
Altar Boyz will kick off with a three-week engagement at
Chicago's LaSalle Bank Theatre (18 West Monroe Street) October 10 - 29, 2006.
Altar Boyz is now in its second year Off-Broadway at New World Stages. Winner of the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical Off-Broadway, the show utilizes sharp parody, sinfully spectacular dancing, and irreverent humor, to satirize a Christian boy band on the final stop of their world tour.
Fans of the show, known as Altarholics, include celebrities as diverse as
Stephen Schwartz and
Tommy Tune to
Kevin Bacon and
Joan Rivers.
Ana Gasteyer,
Rosie O'Donnell,
Stephen Sondheim,
Twyla Tharp,
Cynthia Nixon,
Anthony Rapp, and more also count themselves as fans.
Altar Boyz is directed by
Stafford Arima and choreographed by
Christopher Gattelli. Altar Boyz has music & lyrics by
Gary Adler and
Michael Patrick Walker with a book by
Kevin Del Aguila, based on a concept by
Marc Kessler and
Ken Davenport. A Korean production of the show opened this past April at ChungMu Art Hall in Seoul, also directed by Arima, to much success.
