Strawbs (or The Strawbs) are an English rock band founded in 1964. They are best known for their hit Part of the Union, which reached number two in the UK charts in February 1973.

Fri 10-1-10 BETTIE SERVEET
Doors at 8pm and show at 8:30pm. Tickets $15 in advance and at the door. Genre: Covers Rock/Pop.
Although they didn't cross over into the mainstream the way some of their peers did, Holland's Bettie Serveert became significant college radio stars during the '90s with their jangly, sweetly melodic, at times surprisingly muscular guitar pop. The band's sound was familiar, even archetypal, yet with its own distinct flavor that suggested any number of reference points and made exact comparisons elusive. Much of Bettie Serveert's reputation rested on their 1992 debut, Palomine, and even though critical opinion of their subsequent work was divided, they continued to maintain a cult audience through the decade.

Sat 9-18-10The 35th Anniversary of RAVEN w/ Earthen Grave (Feat Rachel Barton) - Bible of The Devil - Chicago Thrash Ensemble - Diamond Plate
Doors at 8pm and show at 9pm. Tickets $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Genre: Metal
Raven have a history like few other bands, having been a minor player in a couple of metal's major turning points. Formed in 1974, the group was part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. And in 1983, they toured the United States with an unknown band opening for them called Metallica, on their first-ever tour. They've always stayed true to their thrashy, self-proclaimed "athletic rock" sound and just this week released Walk Through Fire (Metal Blade). They will be touring the U.S. in September.

Sat 10-16-10DA! w/ Radar Eyes - The Green Lady Killers - DJ Joe Losurdo (You Weren't There...A History Of Chicago Punk)
Doors at 8pm and show at 9pm. Tickets $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Genre: Post Punk
An important and influential fixture on the early Chicago (post) Punk scene, DA had its feet planted firmly in the moment while focused on a future yet to come. DA, while influenced by psych, punk and noise, created a body of work startling in its depth and originality. Personal and obsessive, strange yet familiar, the music of DA is ripe for re-discovery.
