The Original Grease, the highest grossing show in American Theater Company's 26-year history, must close today. ATC's smash-hit production of the revised, restored and R-rated The Original Grease, written by Jim Jacobs and WarRen Casey and directed by PJ Paparelli with musical direction by Roberta Duchak and choreography by Jim Corti began previews April 23, 2011 and has enjoyed 2 extensions. Plans are currently underway for The Original Grease cast recording, which would be the first time that music from the first production of Grease has ever been recorded.
ATC has enjoyed its most successful season ever, with the world premieres of The Big Meal and The Original Grease breaking all previous box-office records back to back.
Cast changes for the remainder of the show's run are as follows: Steve Munro is Alumni Eugene, Steve originated the role of young Eugene 40 years ago in the 1971 Kingston Mines production; Roni Geva replaces Jesse Fisher as Frenchy; Missy Moreno replaces Sadieh Rifai as Jan; Michael Tepeli replaces Tony Clarno as Kenickie; and Bernard Balbot replaces Bubba Weiler as Doody.
