A MID-90'S CABARET, a fun, musical trip through the pop hits of the 1990s conceived by Jeff Bouthiette, will perform November 10 and 17, 2015 at 7 pm at Uptown Underground, 4707 N. Broadway in Chicago. With musical direction by Brad Kemp, the two-night only cabaret features accomplished Chicago actors and improvisers Jeff Bouthiette, Matthew Van Colton, Amber Linde, Tempe Thomas, and Travis Austin Wright. Tickets are $20 and are currently available at uptownunderground.net. A cash bar is available and guests must be at least 21 years of age.
In 9297: A MID-90'S CABARET, a nostalgia-filled journey of songs popular between 1992 and 1997, we experience a swath of music from the penultimate decade of the last century: the good, the bad, and the ugly. From Prince and TLC to Blackstreet and Ace of Base, the cast will personalize the songs with funny and touching stories of their own lives in the mid-90's, whether they were 5, 15, or 25.
"Musically, the mid-90's were an important time for me growing up," comments creator Jeff Bouthiette. "I thought that was unique to me, being in junior high and high school at the time. However, talking to others, I found that everyone had strong feelings about songs from that time. Whether you despise Celine Dion or adore Mary J. Blige, the mid-90's are stamped in your musical memory."
Scheduled to perform are Jeff Bouthiette (The Improvised Sondheim Project, Head of the Second City Training Center's Music Program), Matthew Van Colton (Mansical, One Night Only in Chicago and New York, Musical! the Musical), Amber Linde (Second City aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines, Anarchy: Improvised Rock Opera, proud coach for MINT at MCL), Tempe Thomas (Candide at the Goodman Theatre, Grey Gardens at Northlight, Metamorphoses at Lookingglass), and Travis Austin Wright (Dogfight with Boho Theatre, Cabaret and HMS Pinafore with Light Opera Works).
