4 Warm, Wise And Wonderful Stories Come to sHORT sTORY tHEATRE  ImageStories about a Semester Abroad, a First Date, Moving Away from Home, and a Life-Changing Job Short Story Theatre presents an evening of four warm, wise and wonderful true stories on Thursday, June 28th, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. at Miramar Bistro, 301 Waukegan Ave. in Highwood. Lou Greenwald of Highland Park presents his story "Finally, It Happened." In it, his dream of being a doctor and his passion for driving fast cars meld into a summer job that teaches him a life lesson Ed Zifkin, also of Highland Park, goes on a blind date and is heroically saved from a threatening situation in his story "First Date."

In her story, "Semester Abroad." Riverwoods resident Nutan Vaidya yearns for twenty years to spend a semester abroad. When it finally happens, it's not what she expected. Wilmette resident Denise Kirshenbaum moves away from home and finds a new "family" in her story "The Penelec People."

Short Story Theatre was founded in 2012 and is dedicated to promoting storytelling as a vibrant, contemporary art form. Co-founder and Producer Donna Lubow says, "Stories are creative non-fiction, based on personal experiences. Our troupe of more than fifty members from Chicago and the northern suburbs melds writing skills and performance skills to entertain and inspire audiences." Lou Greenwald, a husband, brother, father and grandfather, has attended numerous storytelling festivals and has seen many of the country's greatest tellers. He hopes he has learned something about telling stories along the way. Lou: "Stories surround unforgettable moments in one's life."

Edward Zifkin ended up in the US Army a week after the Tet offensive in Vietnam in 1968. After two years service in Germany, he was discharged in Europe and had adventures in Spain. He returned to school, only to drop out at the onset of the Yom Kippur war. He then volunteered to return to the kibbutz in Israel where his brother had made Aliyah. He has continued his travels and has been to 48 states, most of the Canadian provinces (other than the Maritimes) and to all seven continents. He walked in Shackleton's footsteps on South Georgia Island and spent a night at the Ice Hotel above the Arctic Circle in Sweden. He enjoys cooking, walking his dog, writing his memoirs and taking a stab at writing poetry.

Nutan Vaidya, as a lifelong academician and administrator, has spent a considerable amount of time recognizing and cultivating talents of resident and faculty members and helping enhance their teaching and academic skills. A distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, she is certified in the subspecialty of Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatric education. Dr. Vaidya is the co-author of two textbooks: Descriptive Psychopathology and Psychiatry Rounds and has authored several peer-reviewed articles.

Denise Kirshenbaum learned to write as a member of Nancy Beckett's Lakeside Writing Studio. A one-on-one writing coach herself, Denise blends her writing experience with visual and production skills honed during a 20-year photography career to help clients of all levels achieve their writing goals. Her essays have appeared in literary journals, on the web, and in national magazines, including More and Bark.
