Winnetka Theatre promises another hour of fun, suspense, adventure and giggles as it presents this season's Especially for Kids production of Sleeping Beauty, directed by professional director/choreographer Stacey Flaster (Evanston).

The musical treat, for boys and girls ages 3-10, opens Jan.16 and runs through Jan. 31 at the Winnetka Community House, 620 Lincoln Ave. Sleeping Beauty is a delightful, funny and exciting musical that takes place in the Kingdom of Colorland. Join Princess Amber, a rough and tumble tomboy; Prince Hunter, a Prince Charming with thick glasses and a host of allergies; and the villain Magenta, who has been exiled from the kingdom for all the wrong reasons, as they embark on a journey that both entertains and educates. Complete with a dragon, three colorful fairies, a wise owl, and plenty of chances for the young audience to join in the excitement, Sleeping Beauty is a touching story about the great, enduring Power of Love.

To help the young audience enjoy the memorable experience, children get to meet and talk to the actors after the one-hour show. "The kids ask wonderful questions and really seem to 'get' this show," Flaster says. "It's really my favorite of writer Marc Robin's children's shows. I love the music, the characters and the story. It really touches the audience, and me, too."

The all-adult cast of Sleeping Beauty stars Marian Kaderbek (Chicago), Summar Jonas (Chicago), Joe Schmitt (Glenview), Jessica Vann (Chicago), Grace Acker (Chicago), Frank Skony (Chicago) , Ann Fink (Chicago), Jonathan Lynch (Chicago) and Julia Macholl (Morton Grove).

Showtimes for Sleeping Beauty are Saturdays, Jan 16, 23 and 30, at 1 and 4pm, and Sundays, Jan 17, 24 and 31, at noon and 3pm. All tickets are $10 and may be purchased by calling 847-604-0275, or online at www.winnetkatheatre.org
