The starlet, the leading man and a love affair that could change lives and make or break careers! Davidson Community Players will present the Tony Award® winning musical, Singin’ in the Rain this June 16 – 26. What some people call the "Greatest Movie Musical of All Time" is faithfully and lovingly adapted by Broadway legends Betty Comden and Adolph Green from their original award-winning screenplay. Each unforgettable scene, song, and dance from the film is accounted for, including the show-stopping title number, complete with an onstage rainstorm! Hilarious situations, snappy dialogue, and a hit- parade of beloved songs!
Don Lockwood is a silent movie star with everything he could want - fame, adulation and a well-publicized ‘romance’ with his co-star Lina Lamont. But Hollywood is about to change forever. There is rumor in the studio of a new kind of film, where the actors actually talk…and sing...and dance. Can Don and Lina make the transition and will chorus girl Kathy Selden fulfil her dream of stardom and capture Don’s heart along the way?
“Davidson Community Players Summer Series is known for big splashes and this show will have SPLASH,” says Matt Merrell, Executive Director of Davidson Community Players. “Based on the classic film, Singin' In The Rain the perfect entertainment for any fan of the golden age of movie musicals.”
Performances are at the Duke Family Performance Hall on the campus of Davidson College with shows June 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25 at 8pm, June 19 and 26 at 2 pm.
