From England's mysterious moors to the depths of an Egyptian tomb, no one is safe from the terrors of bad puns and dueling dulcimers in The Mystery of Irma Vep, a raucous parody of Victorian morals and Hollywood horror by anarchic comic genius Charles Ludlam. Be afraid, be just a little bit afraid as Triad Stage returns to the smash hit from its first season, the play that The New York Times called "the funniest two hours anywhere."
The Mystery of Irma Vep is part of a strictly limited engagement at the Hanesbrands Theatre in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. At the helm is director Bryan Conger, in his sixth season as an Artistic Associate at Triad Stage. The production features scenic design by Robin Vest, costume design by Daniel Urlie, lighting design by Robert Perry, sound design by G. Clausen, and fight choreography by Jim Wren. Cindi Rush is the casting director, and Abigail Matey is the stage manager.
The cast includes Allen E. Read (Nobody Loves You at 2nd Stage; Mask at Pasadena Playhouse) and Haas Regen (Fiasco Theater's Twelfth Night), both making their Triad Stage debuts.
Opening night is Saturday, October 8 at 8 PM; the InSight Series with a noted expert who will be discussing the world of the play will be held on Sunday, October 9, immediately following the 2:00 PM matinee performance; a pay-what-you-can performance will be offered onWednesday, October 12 at 7:30PM; PostScript, a lively, open discussion with the cast, will be held on Thursday, October 13, immediately following the 7:30 PM performance.
