Theatre Charlotte will hold auditions for "SEUSSICAL" The Dr. Seuss Musical Sunday, July 26 & Monday, July 27 at 7 pm, you need only attend one night. Please have a prepared song and bring sheet music; come dressed to move

Director: Ron Law, Choreographer: Lisa Blanton, Music Director: Ellen Robison, Stage Manager: Sabrina Blanks, Set Designer & Tech Director: Chris Timmons, Costume Designer: Jamey Varnadore, Lighting Designer: John Hartness, Character Breakdown:

CAT IN THE HAT (male, 20s to 40s): a mischievous cat who is the narrator of the story; physically adept, able to play many comic cameos, comfortable with improvising with the audience.

JOJO (boy-but may be played by a girl, age range of 10 to 12): a "Thinker," a smart child with a wild imagination, somewhat of a loner whose "thinks" get him into constant trouble.

HORTON THE ELEPHANT (male, 20s to 40s): a kind, gentle elephant who believes in the goodness of everyone.

GERTRUDE MCFUZZ (female, 20s to 30s): Self-conscious and aware that her one-feather tail isn't perfect; changes during the show from a neurotic and shy bird into one with the power to protect a baby elephant-bird.

MAYZIE LA BIRD (female, 20s to 30s): Pompous, self-centered and vain; flirtatious and manipulative, but not totally bad.

SOUR KANGAROO (female 20s to 40s): Not really sour at all-just a lot of attitude. She's loud, brassy and a lot of fun. Big R& B belt.

GENERAL GENGUS KHAN SCHMITZ (male, 30s to 50s): Bursting with pride; not sadistic, mean or abusive, but certain that he is doing the right thing for his boys and making the world a better place; not a villain or a bully.

THE WICKERSHAM BROTHERS (males, teens to late 20s): Not bad guys-simply youthful guys who tease, play pranks and get a kick out of making mischief, although often at the expense of others. They enjoy hanging around with one another, making music together on the street corner and playing off one another. Each one should develop a distinct persona.

MR. MAYOR (male, late 30s to 40s): Mayor of Whoville and parent trying hard to raise a difficult child in a difficult world. May get aggravated with JoJo, but loves him dearly and tries to always do the right thing.

MRS. MAYOR (female, 30s to 40s): parent trying hard to raise a difficult child in a difficult world; loves her son, JoJo, dearly.

THE BIRD GIRLS (females, 20s to late 30s): a musical Greek Chorus that are Mayzie's friends; resemble Motown back-up singers.

THE WHOS and JUNGLE CREATURES (males and females, boys and girls, ages 10 to 40s): Whos should be played for their inherent humanity; should create his or her own unique character. Jungle Creatures are real people at heart; each one should create a distinct human persona, with touches of the animal that they are. From these groups, the following cameo characters will be selected:

The Grinch (sings in Here on Who and The Grinch Carved the Roast Beast); Yertle the Turtle (the judge in the trial scene); Vlad Vladikoff (black-bottomed eagle who takes Horton's clover); Cindy Lou Who (in the Whos Christmas Pageant); Max the Dog (in the Whos Christmas Pageant); Hunches (in JoJo's thoughts); The Fish (in McElligot's Pool; must be able to roller skate); the 3 Hunters (capture Horton and sell him to the circus); Circus Performers (acts from Circus McGurkus, ranging from clowns to animals to gymnasts).
