Flat Rock Playhouse announced today the launch of a new summer season for Studio 52, a division of the Vagabond School of Drama, est. 1952. Kicking off for Summer 2016, Flat Rock Playhouse Studio 52 is an eight week long series of individual camps that focus on Theatre, Musical Theatre, and Film for all ages Kindergarten through 12th grade. The summer sessions of one week long intensives will run from June 13th through August 5th in the Flat Rock Playhouse Studio 52 Educational Building, 1855 Little River Road in Flat Rock.

"Commitment to education has been a guiding principle at Flat Rock Playhouse since its inception. We are truly thrilled to continue this legacy with Studio 52," says Playhouse Artistic Director Lisa K. Bryant. "The Studio 52 summer line-up features an excellent menu of fun and creative classes for all levels."

Come play with us! For the Flat Rock Playhouse Studio 52 Summer Sessions starting June 13th, rising first through third graders will immerse themselves in the wonder of theatre with classes featuring the zany Dr. Seuss, breathtaking Global Exploration, and a wacky life Under the Big Top. Rising fourth through sixth graders may choose to Follow the Yellow Brick Road, discover a Galaxy Far Away, or even tumble Down the Rabbit Hole. And back by popular request, Flat Rock Playhouse will also be offering a Pre-pro High School Program for our rising 7th through 12th grade students. Campers in these classes will strengthen their acting skills through intensive scene and monologue work. (This class invites all rising 7th through 12th graders, with or without prior experience.)

The Flat Rock Playhouse Studio 52 Summer Sessions will also include Musical Theatre camps. Each week, these students will explore a different aspect of the musical theatre genre, with themes such as Broadway Classics, Broadway Blockbusters, Classical Movie Musicals, and Musical Revues.

Want to make a movie? For the Flat Rock Playhouse Film Academy, rising 6th through 12th graders will be divided into two groups, 6th through 8th grade and 9th through 12th grade, and will learn the process of Film Acting and Production with topics including Basic Camera and Sound Operation, Filmmaking 101, and Screenwriting. Each week both levels will learn to script, shoot, and edit their own project, with genres such as Music Videos, Classic Movie Trailers, Film Noir, and Documentaries. Each Friday these works will be shown in a private screening for family and friends.

"This summer, visit Flat Rock Playhouse and set your imagination free to dream, explore, discover, and create! Join our wonderful, supportive Studio 52 faculty as they guide each student through a fun-filled week of story-telling at its liveliest," says Bryant. "Come play with us!"
