Flat Rock Playhouse is teaming with veteran Broadway composer Frank Wildhorn (For The Glory, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Wonderland) and lyricist Jack Murphy on a brand new "jazz age" musical set in Asheville, North Carolina. Loosely based on F. Scott Fitzgerald, the hot Jazz Age novelist who wrote "This Side of Paradise," "The Beautiful and Damned," "The Great Gatsby," "Tender Is the Night" and "The Last Tycoon," and his wife, Zelda. BroadwayWorld has a sneak peek at Lauren Kennedy and Tony Award Winner, Jarrod Emick. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the show below!

This new musical with choreography by Tony Award Winner Andy Blankenbuehler and arrangements by Ron Melrose of Jersey Boys Fame, tells the story of a young, beautiful southern belle who meets the handsome, twenty-one year old author at a dance on July 4, 1917. Starring Broadway's Lauren Kennedy and Tony Award Winner Jarrod Emick, Zelda: An American Love Story is ultimately about the two lovers’ rise, their fall, and their almost divine desire to rise once more… together. With a score that nods to Porter and Gershwin and a book that is captivating until the final curtain, Zelda is an old-fashioned musical told in a completely new, contemporary way. See it at FRP first, before Broadway.

Presented by Van Winkle Law Firm and Altavista Wealth Management, Inc., Zelda: An American Love Story is onstage October 3 through October 28 at Playhouse Mainstage. Evening performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 8:00 pm and matinee performances are Wednesday, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 2:00 pm.
