In recognition of domestic violence month, Performing Arts and Literary Society (PALS), will be presenting the award-winning stage play, "A Change Is Gonna Come", at Pease auditorium, CPCC, on October 23, 6:00 PM (more information to come). We have some talent local artists who have been preparing for the production for several months; however, we have a few roles that are still vacant and need to be filled immediately! We are a nonprofit organization; therefore; this is not a paid engagement; we are looking for those who are interested in domestic violence advocacy and awareness or who is an inspiring performing artist looking for an opportunity to display your talents. In addition, we are dealing with the issue of domestic violence in religious institution, so we want to make you aware of the sensitivity of the subject matter. We have principal and understudy roles available as specified below:

PRINCIPAL ROLE:

Role: Judge Mary Harrison GENDER: Female
Age Range of Character: Mid 40s/50s LONG MONOLOGUE - APPEAR IN THE FINAL SCENE!
Body Type: Any
Role Description: The presiding judge, who is torn between her womanly intuition and her judicial responsibilities. She has presided over several domestic violence cases and has a soft spot for the victims.

PRINCIPAL ROLE:

Role: Defense Attorney GENDER: Male, Age Range of Character: Any
Body Type: Any
Role Description: Typical lawyer - well-dressed, articulate LONG MONOLOGUE - APPEAR IN THE FINAL SCENE!

PRINCIPAL ROLE/UNDERSTUDY: Pastor James Sills: Age of Character: mid 30s, Race: African American: Special Requirement: Must be a Singer!
Synopsis: Flamboyant, handsome, athletic to lean body type, looks good in a suit! Must be able to memorize long lines because there is a preaching scene in the play. Must be able to display sudden changes in emotion, i.e. from angry to nice, to frustration to charming, etc. APPEAR IN MOST SCENES MANY LINES TO LEARN - MAJOR ROLE

UNDERSTUDY: Daddy Sills: Age of Character: 50 - 60 year old male, (Real age of previous Daddy Sills have ranged from age 25 - 50) Special Requirement: Must be a Singer! Race; African American.

Synopsis: Daddy Sills is a bit of a male chauvinist, and believes that a woman's place is in the home. He establishes the foundation for generational abuse - like Father/like Son! Although the character's age range is 50-60 years, the actual cast member do not have to be that age - makeup does wonders! Special Requirement: Must be a Singer.
