RENT, the 1996 Pulitzer-prize winning Broadway musical, based loosely on Puccini's opera "La Bohème," will close on May 29th at Theatre Charlotte.
With book, music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson, the musical follows a year in the lives of seven friends living the Bohemian lifestyle in New York's East Village. AIDS and both its physical and emotional complications pervade the lives of Roger, Mimi, Tom, Angel, Maureen, Benjamin and Mark. Winner of the 1996 Tony Award, RENT is credited with bringing a new generation to musical theatre. The reality of the story and the quality of the show's rock tunes are as powerful a combination now as they were when the show first appeared on Broadway.
The show is not recommended for those under 17 years old due to its adult content and language
Tickets begin at $12. Find more information on show times or buy tickets at the theater company's website, www.theatrecharlotte.org
