An original teen rock musical written by four local young artists will be performed at Carolina Actors Studio Theatre from June 29-July 1. Called CyberSoul, the musical explores how teens struggle with communication and relationships in a society dominated by technology.
CyberSoul is produced by The Treehouse Acting Company, a theatre company for young artists
co-founded by Abby Corrigan (14 years old) and Matt Mitchell (15 years old) in 2010. Abby and Matt co-wrote the musical with Matt Carlson and Colin Moore, both 18 years old.
Directed by Matt Carlson, the play features a 20-member cast composed of area teenagers, with one adult male. A live band, directed by Colin, will perform all musical numbers. A music video of one of CyberSoul’s original songs, “I Can’t Let Go,” can be seen on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUYem2IO2Kc&feature=youtu.be).
The four teen writers all have ties to Northwest School of the Arts, an arts magnet school in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Abby and Matt Mitchell are rising 9th graders at the school. Matt Carlson is graduating from NWSA in June and plans to attend college. Colin, who graduated from NWSA in 2011, is a rising sophomore at Appalachian State University, where he is studying music recording and production.
