North Carolina Stage Company (NC Stage) has announced the cast for the world premiere of CURVY WIDOW: THE MUSICAL, starring Nancy Opel (Broadway: Honeymoon in Vegas, Urinetown, Sunday in the Park with George, Teddy & Alice).
Opel is joined by Andrea Bianchi (off-Broadway: Being Audrey), Laura Dean (Broadway: The Who's Tommy), Philip Hoffman (Broadway: Into the Woods, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Cabaret (2014 revival)), MaryAnn Hu (Broadway: The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (2006 revival)), Christopher Shyer (Broadway: Mamma Mia!; National Tour: Book of Mormon) and Tom Treadwell (Broadway: Annie (1997 revival); National Tour: Bridges of Madison County).
CURVY WIDOW is about the exploits of a fifty-something widow whose adventures in the least expected places reveal unexpected truths about life, love, survival and sex. In this sassy, frank and witty musical, Curvy learns the HARD way what it means to start life over in the modern age.
The artistic team includes director Peter Flynn (Broadway: Funny Girl (2002 revival), Chess, On the 20th Century;), choreography by Marcos Santana (Broadway: On Your Feet; Rocky; US Tour and West End: Rock of Ages), musical direction by Andrew Sotomayor, orchestration by Wayne Barker (Broadway: Peter and Starcatcher, All About Me, Dam Edna: Back with a Vengeance). Joining this creative team is costume designer Brian Hemesath (Broadway: Honeymoon In Vegas) and local designers Andrew Manion (set), CJ Barnwell (lights), Matt Nielson (sound), and Jessica Tandy Kammerud (props).
NC Stage is proud to have the unique opportunity to present CURVY WIDOW: THE MUSICAL for its Asheville audiences and play a key role in the journey of a musical being developed for future commercial productions.
