NCShakes and High Point Theatre are bringing a clever, rollicking, Canadian-sensation, "Shakespeare on Trial" to High Point Theatre on November 19. The two-man show is performed by Off the Leash Creative, a touring company from Nova Scotia featuring Jeremy Webb and Simon Henderson.
In "Shakespeare on Trial," writer Bill Shakespeare is confronted by four of his most famous characters, Macbeth, Iago, Hamlet and Juliet. They complain to the Bard that they can no longer be understood, and need to be re-written for the modern audience. Jeremy Webb, who wrote the play, and Simon Henderson play all the characters, in a fast-paced introduction to several of Shakespeare's 'greatest hits.' The final 15 minutes of the performance invites audience interaction to demonstrate that, "The play's the thing...". The evening ends with an opportunity to talk with the actors following the show.
A 10:00 a.m. morning matinée performance exclusively for school groups will also be presented on November 19.
This 90-minute show is suitable for middle and high school students and includes interaction with the actors at the conclusion. Tickets are priced at $5 and are available only in advance. School group leaders should contact NCShakes for reservations at 336-841-2273.
"Shakespeare on Trial" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19 at High Point Theatre, 220 E. Commerce Avenue in High Point. Reserved seating tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more.
