The Matthews Playhouse's production of The Diary of Anne Frank is an eye opening revision by Wendy Kesselman. In this gripping adaptation of the popular prize winning 1955 dramatization by Francis Goodrich and Albert Hackett, newly discovered survivor accounts are interwoven to create a contemporary impassioned story of the lives of people persecuted under Nazi rule.

An impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazi's in a concealed storage attic, The Diary of Anne Frank captures the claustrophobic realities of their daily existence-their fear, their hope, their laughter, their grief.

"The challenging version of this play emphasizes a deeper, more revealing personal account of a young woman's sensitivity and courage in the midst of the horrors of the Holocaust", states June Bayless, Artistic Director for the Matthews Playhouse.

The play is directed by Kevin Campbell and introducing newcomer Mariah Shaw as Anne Frank.  Set is designed by Emmy award winner, John R. Bayless.

A portion of the proceeds from this production will go to benefit The Butterfly project at the Levine Jewish Community Center. The Butterfly Project opens May 1, 2011 and honors the 1.5 million children lost in the Holocaust.

Performances are Friday and Saturdays October 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 8 pm and Sundays, October 10, 17, and 24th at 2 pm. Holocaust survivor and novelist
Dora Sorrell will lead a talkback immediately following the performances on October 15th and 17th. For tickets or more information please call 704.846.8343 or
