Some of Charlotte's homegrown talent will take the stage to perform at the next free Open Mic show on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square.
This event typically features instrumentalists, singers, dancers, storytellers, poets, jugglers, magicians and more. The local talent found right here in the Queen City is amazing and ready to entertain in our professional theater.
"It is exciting to see how Charlotte has embraced the idea of our bi-monthly Open Mic shows," said Ralph Beck, director of Blumenthal's Education Department, which is organizing the event. "We look forward to seeing more people come out, not only to show their support but also to sit back and enjoy a great show!"
Blumenthal Performing Arts patron, Lester Ranson, has attended several Open Mic shows, since the program launched last February. "You can count on a fun evening," said Ranson. "You get to hear and see a variety of live performers and encourage developing talent."
Blumenthal's Open Mic shows are part of a new initiative called Whirl. Whirl events are designed to give local artists a chance to showcase their talents on Blumenthal's stages and allow audiences to sample the great talent this city has to offer. Whirl events are free to the public.
National Dance Day is also sponsored by Blumenthal as part of the Whirl initiative. More Whirl events will be added throughout the year.
