Flat Rock Playhouse and Studio 52 Announce SEUSSICAL Starring Scott Treadway

Oh the places you'll go with beloved Dr. Seuss characters The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, and more in Seussical the Musical, a delightful journey imagined by Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Flat Rock Playhouse launches its Studio 52 Family Series with Seussical the Musical, running March 8th through March 25th at the Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown on Main Street in Hendersonville.

A whimsical ride through the land of Seuss, featuring the tall and the small, Seussical the Musical is perfect for the whole family! Join the mischievous narrator, The Cat in the Hat, as Horton, JoJo, and Gertrude embark on a zany and heartfelt adventure to discover the power of friendship, community, and their own imaginations. Seussical the Musical introduces all of the characters and stories you love in songs like "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!", "Here on Who", and "If I Ran the Circus."

Neel Patrick Edwards stars as Horton the Elephant with Kaia Pelz as Gertrude and AJ Hernandez as JoJo. All three have appeared in previous Studio 52 productions. Flat Rock favorite, Scott Treadway, will return to the Family Friendly series to play the infamous Cat in the Hat.

Seussical the Musical also features Calintha, McClintic, Lily Mercado, Emersyn Massaro, Harper Callahan, Noelle Crist, Richard Blue, Peyton Heatherly, Peter Schnitzer, Ezekiel Mercado, Brice Ferris, Joseph Sherer, Wyatt Schitzer, Cyrus Hardin, Jonah Jakubielski, Jia Hind, Sage Albert, Layla Zeferiono, Caitlyn Zeferiono, Azaria Miller, Xavier Cacanindin, Von Alberto, Samantha Janco, Jacey Bergman, Lianas Pronyk, Ava Treadway, Sophia Larsen, Clarke Pernell, Kyra Hewitt, Adam Schnitzer, Grace Henderson, Samual Anchia, Lila Feather, Calvin Hockenberry, and Cally Edwards.

Seussical the Musical will be directed by Dave Hart. The show will be choreographed by Lisa Bryant with Matthew Glover as the Music Director. Adam Goodrum will serve as Production Manager. Dennis Maulden, CJ Barnwell, Ashli Arnold, Kurt Conway will serve as Scenic, Lighting, Costume, and Sound Design respectively. Zeinab Caskey serves as Stage Manager with Riley Hewitt as Student Stage Manager, Ezra Hardin as Assistant Student Stage Manager, Teresa Dewberry as Adult Costume Assistant, and Mae Freeman as Student Costume Assistant. Cassidy Bowles will be designing the properties.

Seussical the Musical is presented by the Downtown Series Sponsor, Rug and Home with BMW of Asheville as Opening Night Sponsor. Seussical the Musical will run March 8th through March 25th at Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown. Performances Thursday and Friday 7:00 PM, Saturday at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and Sunday at 3:00 PM. FLAT ROCK PLAYHOUSE

In 1937, a group of struggling performers, led by Robroy Farquhar, organized themselves as the Vagabond Players. The Vagabonds worked in a variety of places over the course of three years, and in 1940 found themselves in the Blue Ridge region of Western North Carolina. The local and tourist community welcomed them with open arms when they presented their first summer season of plays in a 150-year-old grist mill they converted into The Old Mill Playhouse at Highland Lake. So successful was that summer, they returned in 1941. After WWII, the Vagabond Players reorganized, came back to the region and opened a playhouse in nearby Lake Summit. The Lake Summit Playhouse thrived during the post war years and soon the Vagabond Players were looking for a larger and permanent home. In 1952, the troupe of performers, and a newly formed board of directors, made an offer to buy an 8-acre lot in the Village of Flat Rock. This new home made the Vagabonds "locals" and a rented big top gave birth to Flat Rock Playhouse. As the beautiful Western Carolina region continued to grow, so did the Playhouse and in 1961, by Act of the North Carolina General Assembly, Flat Rock Playhouse was officially designated The State Theatre of North Carolina. What began as a few weeks of summer performances in 1940 is now a nine-month season of plays including Broadway musicals, comedy, drama, and theatre for young audiences. The Playhouse's dual mission of producing the performing arts and providing education in the performing arts includes a professional series; a summer and fall college apprentice and intern program; and Studio 52, year-round classes and workshops in theatre and film for students from kindergarten through adults. Flat Rock Playhouse now hosts over 100,000 patrons annually and is a significant contributor to the local economy and the Arts in North Carolina.
