Taught by Lon Bumgarner, who has taught hundreds of students and professional actors and serves as Professor of Acting in the Theatre Department at UNCC, this 8-week course is a foundational study in acting and instilling your ability to achieve Sub-textual Objectives, oriented toward work on camera. Classes are Sundays 2-4 p.m. Starting July 10 thru August 28, possibly a week into September (no class Labor Day Weekend). Enrollment is $250 total, including $40 non-refundable deposit.

We use cameras to record your progress and analyze your performance. This fosters understanding of the actors' relationship to the vehicle of film. In addition, the basic premises of 'truthful' acting are introduced and examined, based on a combination of the Stanislavski Method and Lon's own conglomeration of wisdom from years of directing, working in the industry and teaching. Stage actors will also benefit from this training. Students keep their tapes for ongoing reference.

This class is 'learning by doing'-- you will be learning and rehearsing a new script each week with your scene partner, and receiving coaching and homework in class. Attendance and the commitment to additional time outside of class for rehearsal during the week is paramount for your progress. More than two absences will keep you from having enough material to participate fully in the last two classes; please be sure you can attend all or nearly all classes.

This class is the pre-requisite for our interim-level Technique class; both are required for actors to move into the ongoing Advanced Studio. See website to register & for more info, or call Fast Manager, Sarah at 980-428-1586.

Bumgarner has two MFA's: one in Film, the other in Theatre. He studied with the Royal Shakespeare Academy in England, worked in Hollywood, has produced and directed films and commercials, directed (and directs) plays in NYC, Charlotte and elsewhere, and ran Charlotte's only Equity theatre company, a Shakespeare company, for 6 years. Lon is assisted by Marilyn Carter, Masters in Drama, Yale and currently adjunct instructor of acting at CPCC and UNCC. See their CV's on the Staff page at www.filmactorsstudio.net.
