Children's Theatre of Charlotte has begun a nationwide search for its new artistic director. It also announced Director of Education Michelle Long will lead its production team in the 2012-13 season as interim artistic director. She will also direct "The Secret Garden" in January. Long takes over for Alan Poindexter, who resigned on Aug. 21.
"As we launch our new season with 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown,' we're excited also to look toward the future," said Executive Director Bruce LaRowe. "Our new artistic director will help us continue to be one of the premiere children's theatres in the country and will, hopefully, help guide us to new and exciting heights."
Long joined Children's Theatre of Charlotte in 2011 as its director of education. Previous to CTC, her work as the director of fine arts at a private college preparatory school in Charlotte won her the honor of North Carolina K-12 Educator of the Year in 2009.
An accomplished writer and director, Long has worked in film, television and theatre for the past 20 years, garnering more than 50 honors for her outstanding original work, creative design and exceptional talent in both stage and screen venues, including multiple national directing, playwriting and screenplay awards.
Children's Theatre of Charlotte is a national leader among theatres for young audiences, serving nearly 300,000 young people and families annually with professional productions and innovative education initiatives.
Children's Theatre of Charlotte is supported, in part, with an Operating Grant from the Arts & Science Council, Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Inc. and the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.
