The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival is casting actors and interns for its 2011 summer season, featuring TARTUFFE by Moliere (performing outdoors June 3-19) and KING LEAR by Williams Shakespeare (performing indoors August 3-14). Each summer The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival presents free performances and educational workshops to more than 7,000 residents and visitors.

An open call will take place Saturday, February 19 from 3-5pm and Sunday, February 20 from 6-8pm at the Charlotte School of Ballet (627 S. Sharon Amity Road- corner of Providence and Sharon Amity). Please park behind the building and enter in the rear.

Actors who have never worked with the company should attend either of these open calls. Please prepare a short (2 min max) classical monologue (Shakespeare preferred). You may also be asked to stay and read scenes from the two plays. Experience performing Shakespeare is a plus, but definitely not required. Please bring a headshot and resume with you.

Actors who have previously worked with Collaborative Arts or The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival should contact Elise Wilkinson (elise@collaborativeartstheatre.com) for information on attending callbacks.

We are also casting festival interns who will work both onstage and backstage in both productions. These positions are ideal for mature high school theatre students, college theatre majors, or adult actors with limited performance experience. Interns attend acting workshops with visiting guest artists (for free) and increase their skills by working closely with experienced company members. If you are interested in being cast as an intern, please attend one of the open calls. You may either prepare a short (2 min max) classical monologue (Shakespeare preferred) or read from materials we provide at the audition.
