Charlotte Ballet announces its 2019/2020 Season with performances that continue to challenge and inspire in both the classical ballet tradition and cutting-edge contemporary dance. Featuring new choreography as well as the return of Charlotte favorites, the 2019/2020 Season will continue to showcase the stunning athleticism and breathtaking artistry of Charlotte Ballet's dancers.

"We are thrilled to announce our 2019/2020 Season," said Artistic Director Hope Muir. "I see this season as the culmination of my vision for the company over the past three years, and I think Charlotte audiences will continue to be awed by the work we present."

Charlotte Ballet's 2019/2020 Season lineup includes the following:

LEONCE AND LENA

October 24-26, 2019 | Knight Theater

Christian Spuck, Artistic Director of Ballet Zürich, brings to life this 19th century satirical romantic comedy by German author Georg Büchner. A classic tale of defiant love, the ballet tells the story of Leonce, Prince of Popo, and Lena, Princess of Pipi, who have been betrothed to one another since birth but have never met. Casting aside conventions of the day, they both flee on the eve of their wedding only to meet as strangers and fall in love. This highly theatrical production has been called "the perfect ballet for ballet-doubters."

NUTCRACKER

December 6-23, 2019 | Belk Theater

Presented by: Bank of America

Experience the wonder and joy of the holidays at Charlotte Ballet's Nutcracker! Clara's classic tale comes to life with the treasured music of Tchaikovsky performed live by Charlotte Symphony and choreography by Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux. Join the Sugar Plum Fairy on a fantastical journey through the Land of Sweets in this beloved family tradition!

INNOVATIVE WORKS: BEYOND THE MINT

January 24 - February 15, 2020 | Center for Dance

Artistic Director Hope Muir introduces two exciting new choreographers to Charlotte; UNC Greensboro professor Duane Cyrus and Resident Choreographer of The Nashville Ballet Christopher Stuart will embark on creations for the company inspired by The Mint Museum's upcoming fall exhibition "Immersed in Light: Studio Drift at the Mint." And for the first time, a Charlotte Ballet artist from our very own Choreographic Lab will be commissioned for the program.

SLEEPING BEAUTY

A Fairy-Tailored Classic

March 13-22, 2020 | Knight Theater

One of the world's most popular classical ballets has been adapted by acclaimed British choreographer Matthew Hart to engage today's audiences. Artistic Director Hope Muir returns to the stage as Narrator in this condensed version that stays true to Marius Petipa's beloved choreography-complete with glittering tutus and dazzling tiaras. Set to Tchaikovsky's quintessential score, this near-perfect classic showcases the charming tale of Princess Aurora, the Lilac Fairy and Carabosse in a captivating story filled with magic and poetry.

SPRING WORKS: FROM CLT TO NYC

April 23-25, 2020 | Knight Theater

Spring Works offers a powerhouse repertoire that is unmatched in its boldness and artistry. Following its run in Charlotte, elements of Spring Works will be showcased at the iconic Joyce Theater in Manhattan.
