The North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center awarded four Center Stage Awards for outstanding contributions made by community leaders during its Annual Meeting Tuesday, November 10.
Tom Hollis - Tom Hollis, a genuine colleague to the Education Department of the Center, has helped create and continue to grow the partnership with Central Piedmont Community College. Tom has worn various hats in collaborating with the Center, including being a speaker at a pre-show Interesting Insights event, sponsoring the popular Get to Know the Show workshops, hosting Master Classes and Residences, leading ticket distributions at audience development initiatives and participating as a featured presenter at a Club Blume Informance.
Gregg McCraw - Gregg McCraw is the promoter behind MaxxMusic and his five-year partnership with the Center has helped bring to Charlotte more top-notch entertainment than ever before. McCraw, through MaxxMusic, has brought a diverse group of singers and bands and helped the Center's season be one of the best selling in its history.
Bernie Brown - Bernie Brown is the owner of the Visulite Theatre. He has worked closely with both MaxxMusic and the Center for five years to bring the best music to Charlotte. Through the partnership, Bernie Brown has contributed to the Charlotte music scene by bringing diverse artists, large and small, to the Center's venues.
Duke Energy - Charlotte-based Duke Energy is one of the largest electric power companies in the United States and is the title sponsor of the 2009-10 Blumenthal Performing Arts Center's flagship Broadway Lights Series. Through its sponsorship, Duke Energy is not only playing a highly visible role in supporting the arts in Charlotte, but is also helping to make ticket scholarships to The Aluminum Show and Mary Poppins available to 250 underserved families in the region. This is only the second time the Blumenthal has had a title sponsor for its Broadway Lights Series.
The Doctor Family Foundation - Through the program, "Expanding Horizons: The Broadway Experience!," the Doctor Family Foundation is providing full support for the Center's 2009 and 2010 Broadway Junior Theater Celebrations, developing a new "Get To Know Broadway" curriculum to be integrated into local schools, and enabling ten gifted young people to participate in a unique, Center-led New York Broadway Experience. Don was the first Corporate Partner contributor in both 2008 and 2009.
Bob Bertges - As Director of Corporate Real Estate for Wachovia/Wells Fargo, Bob Bertges was the visionary and key driver behind the South Tryon Cultural Campus that includes the Knight Theater. Not only was he The catalyst for a wonderful development, but Bob and his team delivered the Knight Theater on time and on budget.
