Blumenthal Center for Performing Arts made several announcements today regarding upcoming events. They will premier A CHORUS LINE on September 29th and will offer tickets for future acts starting Friday, October 9th. The lineup will include performances by Garrison Keillor, Rockapella, and more.
A CHORUS LINE reclaimed its place in the heart of Broadway at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, where it opened on October 5, 2006. A CHORUS LINE is directed by its original Tony Award winning co-choreographer Bob Avian and is produced by John F. Breglio for Vienna Waits Productions.
Garrison Keillor, author and host of "A Prairie Home Companion" visits Blumenthal Performing Arts Center's Belk Theater Sunday, November 22 at 7 p.m. The American author, humorist, columnist, musician, satirist and radio personality is best known for creating the groundbreaking radio drama in 1974. Keillor captivated audiences during the two-hour variety show with his striking presence, tongue-in-cheek delivery and humorous tales of life in the Midwest. Garrison Keillor is the author of eight books for adults, and three for children. In addition to his books, he has written poetry and is a consummate storyteller whose voice can be heard on numerous recordings.
SISTER'S CHRISTMAS CATECHISM, the one-woman show written by Maripat Donovan (with Jane Morris and Marc Silvia), will play at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center's Booth Playhouse Dec. 1 - 20. It's "Forensic Files goes to Bethlehem," in this holiday mystery extravaganza, by the author of LATE NITE CATECHISM and LATE NITE CATECHISM 2 as Sister takes on the mystery that has intrigued historians throughout the ages - Whatever happened to the Magi's gold ("We know that Mary used the frankincense and myrrh as a sort of potpourri - they were in the barn after all.") Assisted by a local choir and a gaggle of audience members, Sister directs a living nativity and employs her own CSI-inspired tools to find the culprit.
A ROCKAPELLA HOLIDAY will play at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center's McGlohon Theatre Dec. 15 -16. Audiences may remember ROCKAPELLA as the house band on the award-winning PBS television program Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? Fun for all ages, the evening will include popular holiday songs, rock solid harmonies, passionate arrangements and boundless enthusiasm both on stage and in the audience.
THE BAND OF THE IRISH GUARDS AND THE ROYAL REGIMENT OF SCOTLAND will present the tradition of pageantry and music at the Belk Theater Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. THE BAND OF THE IRISH GUARDS AND THE ROYAL REGIMENT OF SCOTLAND features colorfully kilted musicians who capture the military precision and musical artistry of the British Isles. Formed on April 1, 1900 to commemorate the bravery of the many Irish Regiments who had fought in the South African campaigns, the current establishment is made up of 49 musicians. The band has a variety of professional ensembles that include a Concert Band, Marching Band, Salon Orchestra, Dance Band, Fanfare Trumpeters and several other smaller ensembles. The Guards will perform both traditional folk tunes and other familiar songs.
