4th Annual Uptowne High Point Holiday Stroll: A Dickens Christmas, 12/7

Uptowne High Point Association and NCShakes present the sights and sounds of Christmas at the fourth annual Uptowne High Point Holiday Stroll: A Dickens Christmas, Saturday, December 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

Activities will take place in High Point's Uptowne district, along North Main Street from Ray to State Avenues. Scheduled events include:

* Open houses at historic homes, churches and shops, including St. Mary's Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, the Briles House, the Bernice Bienenstock Furniture Library, High Point Public Library, the Sherrod House, Millis Square and the J.H. Adams Inn

* Horse-drawn carriage rides (fee charged)

* Children's activities, including visits by Santa Claus and his elves

* Appearances by characters from NCShakes' "A Christmas Carol"

* Performances of Christmas music, theatre and dance by community groups

* Traditional crafts and holiday wares for sale

Community Clinic of High Point kicks off the Stroll this year with its annual Puttin' on the Grits Southern Breakfast fundraiser, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Community Life Center, 205 W. Farriss Avenue. For information call336-841-7154 or see www.facebook.com/CommunityClinicHighPoint.

Uptowne High Point Association began presenting the free holiday stroll in 2010 to promote shopping and dining in the Uptowne area. NCShakes joined as co-presenter after staff and company members volunteered with the stroll beginning three years ago. The stroll is also presented with support from the City Project and the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau.

NCShakes will stage a musical readers theatre version of its beloved adaptation of Charles Dickens, "A Christmas Carol Unplugged," at High Point Theatre on December 20 and 22. Tickets may be purchased at www.highpointtheatre.com or336-887-3001.

Schools, churches and community groups are invited to perform at several indoor and outdoor locations throughout the Stroll on December 7, presenting Christmas-themed music, dance or theatre.
