Award winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez will be presenting sponsors at the 4th annual Brooklyn Children's Theatre's SPRING SING on Saturday, April 14, 2018. Kristen, an Oscar and Grammy winner, co-wrote Broadway's first a capella show, IN TRANSIT. Bobby, co-creator of BOOK OF MORMON and AVENUE Q, is the only person ever to double EGOT - winning at least two Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards. Together they wrote music for Disney's FROZEN and Disney Pixar's COCO.
The event is to raise funds for Brooklyn Children's Theatre's Oasis program, BCT's outreach program to bring children from family shelters into BCT's classes. 105 BCT scholarships have gone to children in family shelters this year.
The Lopezes will be joined by other Broadway veterans and student performers singing songs that inspire them.
The event will take place at the Shapeshifter Lab (18 Whitwell Place @ 1st Street) in Gowanus, Brooklyn from 7 - 10 PM on Saturday, April 14.
Alongside performances will be a silent auction and live auction including, among others, specialty packages, television and theatre tickets. A limited number of SPRING SING tickets are still available.
Since its founding in 2004, Brooklyn Children's Theatre has served thousands of youth and teens, including hundreds of low-income youth and children living in family shelters. BCT'S SPRING SING supports scholarships to bring the art of theatre to many youth who would otherwise not have access to musical theatre training.
SPRING SING will also feature Broadway veteran Lee Wilkof, (Waitress, Assassins, Little Shop of Horrors, Kiss Me Kate), as well as the Emcee's for the evening, Jeremy Shamos (Tony nominee for Clybourne Park, Meteor Shower) and Nina Hellman (Wet Hot American Summer, Wanderlust).
Along with performances by Broadway Veterans, 10-year-old Marian Hernandez will be singing the Oscar winning song "Remember Me" from COCO, written by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, with Robert accompanying her on the piano. She will dedicate the song to her great grandmother.
Brooklyn Children's Theatre brings together youth from diverse backgrounds to learn and grow through the collaborative art of musical theatre. BCT produces 32 original musicals a year, starring children from all different backgrounds. 70% of BCT's students receive tuition assistance of some kind.
