The York Symphony Orchestra will present, "The Music of John Williams: 85th Birthday Celebration" onSaturday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in York. The performance will feature popular movie soundtracks in celebration of legendary film composer John Williams' 85th birthday. This Pops Series concert will kick off the orchestra's 2016-2017 season, A Musical Journey Through Time.
"We are taking a trip down movie memory lane with special presentations of the soundtracks to some of the most popular films of all time," said Lawrence Golan, music director and conductor of the York Symphony Orchestra. "We are excited to share the amazing music of John Williams, a legendary stage and screen composer, who has penned the soundtracks that set the mood and inspired our journey to lands near and far.
Williams has been recognized for writing some of cinema's most popular film scores, including the soundtracks fromJaws, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, E.T., Star Wars, Harry Potter and more. He has received numerous awards and great acknowledgement at the Academy Awards, Grammys, Golden Globes and Emmys, to name a few. "The Music of John Williams: 85th Birthday Celebration" performance will feature the following pieces:
· Jaws
· The Cowboys Overture
· Jurassic Park Highlights
· "Hymn to the Fallen" from Saving Private Ryan
· Suite from Far and Away
· "Adventures on Earth" from E.T.
· "Raiders March" from Raiders of the Lost Ark
· "Harry's Wondrous World" from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
· Star Wars Suite for Orchestra.

The York Symphony Orchestra will present "The Music of John Williams: 85th Birthday Celebration" Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in York.
