York Little Theatre is currently in its 83rd season. Founded in 1933, this community theatre has been a treasure in the York Community ever since.
The "Little Theatre" movement started in this country during the Great Depression. Little Theatres signified community theatres, giving local residents the chance to be involved in all aspects of their own productions.
Today, community theatres still offer multiple opportunities for people of all ages. Educational classes and summer camps are available, in addition to the volunteer opportunities on and off stage.
York Little Theatre has grown tremendously in the past years. The productions are now large scale, with tremendous talent, incredible sets and costumes and exceptional technical displays. The classes and summer camps are the best in the region.
At this point in the theatre's history, the Board of Directors at YLT felt it was time to make a name change for the Theatre. Located on Belmont Street since 1953, the name "Belmont" reflects the heritage and tradition of the theatre.
Thus the name of the theatre will now be The Belmont Theatre. It is and always will be York's Community Theatre. The mission remains the same-serving this community by offering the best possible productions and educational classes. As always, people are invited to audition and volunteer in all capacities, as well as enroll in classes and summer camps. It is the people who make this theatre great, and the support of the community that makes it possible.
