Wolf Performing Arts Center presents a sensory friendly performance of The Velveteen Rabbit Dec. 10 at 3pm. in Rotwitt Theater at Rosemont College.

The actors and staff are eager to welcome all audiences to this performance, which is designed to create a performing arts experience that is accessible to audience members who have autism, developmental differences, or other sensory sensitivities.

The Wolf PAC staff and volunteers have been specially trained to accommodate families' needs. Guidance and sensory supports (fidgets, noise cancelling headphones) will be available in the lobby.

Accommodations for this performance will encompass lower sound levels, especially for jarring sounds; lights at a low level in the theatre during the performance; reduction of lighting focused on the audience; and designated "take a break" areas within the lobby. Additionally, the actors and staff support flexible house rules such as the need for audience members to talk or move during the show. Families will also have access to resource materials to prepare for their visit.

"The young actors at Wolf Performing Arts Center have given their time and engaged in additional workshops so they could learn more about autism and how to create the most welcoming environment possible for these theater goers," says Bobbi Wolf, Founding Executive Director of the center. "The actors and staff are especially eager to make this performance a successful theater-going experience for all their peers, especially those who ordinarily might hesitate to attend a theater performance, and they are very excited about this performance."

Betsy Wolf Regn directs the beloved tale by playwright Phil Grecian based on the book by Margery Williams that centers on a much loved toy rabbit that a young child wants more than anything to be real. When the child becomes ill with scarlet fever, it is up to the Velveteen Rabbit and his toy friends to save the boy. The Velveteen Rabbit must choose between saving the boy or becoming real, an opportunity presented by the beautiful Toy Fairy. As our rabbit learns what it truly means to love, audiences are swept on a journey with comedy, adventure, pathos and the message that love makes all things real. Artistic Director is Tim Popp.

The Rotwitt Theater, Rosemont College is at 1400 Montgomery Avenue in Rosemont, PA.
