The historic Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center has partnered with the York County Industrial Development Authority (YCIDA) to begin managing Marketview Arts, a $2.9 million building that serves as gallery space and an arts orientation center in downtown York.

"This partnership offers the Strand-Capitol the unique opportunity to manage a building that is home to a dynamic mix of artists and other creatively-focused groups that all greatly contribute to the artistic movement in downtown York," said Ken Wesler, president/CEO of the Strand-Capitol.

Currently, Marketview is home to six local artists' studios; York College, whose art students use the space for studio classes, open houses and a printing press; the PA Arts Experience, which hosts a constantly evolving display of art for public viewing; and Gallery hall, a special event space which most recently hosted the popular Wayne White exhibit.

"We're extremely proud that the Strand-Capitol will now be involved in the daily operations of Marketview Arts," said Jack Kay, chairman of the YCIDA Board of Directors. "As a Performing Arts Center, the Strand-Capitol will make Marketview's connection with the arts community even stronger."

The Strand-Capitol will serve as the unifying element between all of the tenants within Marketview Arts and will be responsible for the overall management of every day building operations. The York County Industrial Development Authority will keep ownership of the building.

"The future for Marketview is bright," adds Wesler. "Assisting the arts community is one of the pillars of the Strand-Capitol's mission and we are proud to take this important step towards helping to grow the arts community and offerings of downtown York."

Marketview Arts, is a $2.9 million studio for creativity that provides gallery space and an arts orientation center in what was once an underutilized property in the heart of York County. Located directly across from York's historic Central Market, Marketview is home to artist studio spaces, which allows the public to interact with the artists as well as allowing the artists to interact with each other in their creative process and a unique event and multipurpose space (Gallery Hall) on the third floor that is available for art shows, meetings, classes, weddings and many other events. Marketview Arts offers a fortifying interaction between professional artists, York College students, tourists and the general public.

The Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center is Central Pa.'s premier venue for dynamic live entertainment, presenting an array of Broadway productions, comedy performances, live music, and family shows.
