Totem Pole Playhouse will showcase Resident Company Member Sean Fri in the upcoming comedy Travels With My Aunt.

Totem Pole’s resident company originally grew out of the structure of stock plays. Most plays shared the same types of characters—fatherly figures, ingénues, the quirky friend, etc.— requiring a pool of actors that easily fit into one of these categories in two to four plays across a six-show season. Modern plays, however, no longer hold to this model, employing a wide variety of unique characters. This means that in order to maintain a resident company, actors must be able to play virtually anything, from different styles to different age ranges and types. The key to casting is to find an actor versatile enough to play a love interest or a villain, a hero or a coward, and everything in between.

Totem Pole Playhouse is extremely lucky to have found one such actor in Sean Fri. Sean’s ties to Totem Pole reach back to his training at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Washington, D.C., where he met Artistic Director Ray Ficca, in 1989. The two became fast friends, and Ray came to respect Sean’s talent immensely, describing him “one of the most intelligent actors I've ever met. He has that rare combination of versatility and strength that makes him so invaluable as a member of our company.” Travels With My Aunt—in which only four actors play dozens of roles—will put Sean’s artistic flexibility to good use. He’ll be whirling through several parts, primarily playing one of the most challenging roles of the season, the outlandish Aunt Augusta. Be sure to catch this can’t-miss performance in Graham Greene’s Travels With My Aunt, running June 19 to July 1st, 2012. Sponsored by Essis and Sons Carpet One and Rotz and Stonesifer, CPA.
