This February marks the first MainStage Series show at Prima's new theater. The organization now offers a home for fresh theatrical experiences in Lancaster, and is taking on Disenchanted, a musical comedy, playing February 1-23.
In this hilarious vaudeville-style show, the original storybook heroines present subversive, not-for-kids "true stories" behind the tales as old as time. In order to set the record straight, these royal renegades toss off their tiaras, replacing sugary duets and animated teapots with songs that expose the juicy details of each princess's life post-happily ever after.
Written by Dennis T. Giacino, the uproarious vaudeville-style show reached Off-Broadway in 2014, and was nominated for 'Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical' (Outer Critics Circle Awards) and 'Best New Off-Broadway Musical' (Off Broadway Alliance Awards). The production also received a nod from Playbill, making the list of 'Best of the Year - 2014.'
Reviews have called it "FUNNY, IRREVERENT! Audiences are falling for 'Disenchanted!'" NBC TELEVISION, NYC (Off-Broadway) and "A new spin on Disney classics, leaving audiences doubled over in laughter!" CBS TELEVISION, NYC (Off-Broadway). Disenchanted is staged in Lancaster for the month of the Valentine's holiday, making for a perfect date night, girls night out, or singles awareness celebration.
The production is led by Broadway-credited director J. Scott Lapp (Associate Director, Bonnie & Clyde). The cast includes Lindsay Morgan (Snow White), Sydney Rose Hover (Sleeping Beauty), Angela Griswold (Cinderella), Rori Nogee (Belle/Little Mermaid/Rapunzel), and Pilisa Mackey (Princess Who Kissed A Frog).
The Prima venue opened in late 2018 on the west side of Lancaster City, and includes free on-site parking, plush seating, a 200-person capacity, and state-of-the-art technology. For Disenchanted, the theater will be set like a vaudeville club, with a cash/credit bar open for purchases before the show and during intermission. The show plays February 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at primalancaster.org or by calling the box-office at (717) 327-5124.
